The hired man is worthy of his hire. They are barely able to pay their way. 

Those that benefit from those that are working in the fields and factories, bakeries  work hard for their wages.  The wealthy take from those that are working for them their time, their health and enjoy the proceeds of their labour yet pay minute amount in comparison to the working person. They need to put their hands in their pockets and fund the public services and all other projects they expect the working man to fund.  Without the workers they would not have their wealth.
